Playwright Mark Brown’s Distinctive Adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic Novel was a joy to design. The story takes us through Europe, India, China, Japan, across the Pacific, across the United States and back to London. Bob Philliips set gave Director Russ Tryez a gorgeous base to create all of the various locations using only one Table and four chairs. It was an incredible challenge with a cast of 5 playing 31 characters. The costumes needed to help tell the story, as well as instantaneously transform our actors into a vast variety of characters. I really wanted the costumes to be as complete and detailed as possible to heighten the Wow factor as each new scene transitioned. This led to some extremely elaborate rigging and a 5 star Wardrobe crew (who actually got to bow each night at Curtain call, deservedly so!) This show was so well done, that even during tech when the same joke was repeated over and over to correct a cue, I still laughed every time. The cast was amazing, as was the Process!
